The Learning Sanctuary

The Learning Sanctuary is a UK based provider of qualifications and master classes for everyone involved in learning and training, from those about to deliver a training session for the first time all the way through to senior executives responsible for directing the overall effectiveness of learning in an organisation.

The Learning Sanctuary was conceived by Neville Pritchard, formerly Director of Learning at Barclays Plc and Head of Group Training and Management Development at Abbey National. In both of these roles, and also as Chairman of the Financial Services Sector Skills Council  & UK President of ASTD, Neville had become increasingly frustrated  at the lack of formal, relevant, practical and cost effective qualifications and career development available to those within the learning & training profession.

His vision was to create a suite of internationally recognised qualifications that will help learning professionals develop not only their skills, but also their careers.

Whether you are a specialist training deliverer or designer, a learning consultant, a learning & development manager or even a learning executive it has been very difficult to find learning to complement your career pathway - that is of course up until now!

Working exclusively and in partnership with ITOL (Institute of Training and Occupational Learning), The Learning Sanctuary will provide a range of accredited qualifications to suit YOU.

Advanced Certificate in Training and Occupational Learning (AdCITOL)

This qualification provides a professional foundation for experienced trainers who have, or are seeking, a position within the training profession which involves the formulation and implementation of policy.

The programme seeks to provide an in-depth understanding of a range of theoretical concepts relating to the role of training and development and within organisations and also to develop skills which contribute to the success of the role. The Advanced CITOL will enable those employed in training, assessment or vocational education to gain entry into the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning at licentiate level, provided that other criteria concerning role responsibilities and experience are met.

The programme will enhance credibility and enable individuals to work confidently with their organisation or client management. It provides a depth of knowledge and expertise to enable proactive contribution and support that adds value to the organisation or client. The content develops specialist skills to increase confidence and impact at all levels, enabling specialists to ensure aligned, integrated, effective and sustained learning and development interventions.

Who Should Attend:

This programme is ideals for individuals who want to progress into a specialist deliverer, facilitator, training designer or learning consultant role - and it follows on from the Certificate in Training and Occupational Learning.

However, if an individual can provide evidence that they have already completed a training programme that provides equivalent skill development, or have relevant experience, then they may be accepted directly onto the AdCITOL programme. The following qualifications will be accepted:

  • Certificate in Training and Occupational Learning awarded by ITOL
  • Certificate in Training Practice awarded by CIPD
  • City and Guilds 7307 Further and Adult Education Teacher's Certificate
  • NVQ/SVQ level 3 in Learning and Development (formerly Training and Development)
  • A degree qualification of direct relevance to the training function
  • A Bachelor of Education qualification (adult education)
  • Post Graduate Certificate of Education (adult education)
  • Equivalent qualifications from non-UK awarding bodies
  • Exceptionally, a candidate with substantial experience who can demonstrate expertise in the areas covered by the Certificate in Training and Occupational Learning may be admitted directly onto the AdCITOL programmes.

"I am delighted to lend my support to the work of The Learning Sanctuary. Anything that focuses on skills for those people directly involved in development will undoubtedly have an enormous positive impact on the skills agenda as a whole. This is a very positive initiative for Learning and Development professionals and I hope that it will provide a template which can be taken into other areas as well."
